Silver???

I was going through a huge bag of change from France that was given to me years ago (one of the reasons I started coin collecting) and I just found five 50 Franc coins! I looked them up and they said they were 90% silver!! These things are bigger than a Peace Dollar, and I was wondering if these really silver or are just certain varieties silver like Ike's? (They are all dated 1975 or 1978).

There is also a 100 francs coin from 1987 that is supposedly silver too? Any info would be great!

50 Francs from 1974 to 1980 are all .900 silver and weigh .868 ounces. The 100 Franc coin is also .900 silver and is .434 ounces

Wow!! I cant believe it!! I also just found a 10 francs coin from 1967 that is about the same size as the 50 francs and is also silver!!!!!

And I just found 15 5 franc coins from 1960 to 1964!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are .835 silver and have .3221 ounces in each. Great Finds

Hey Dihren, I was creeping on this forum and had to read your thread, Great finds on the french Silver Whats the total tally for Oz?

Hey Wicka! The fifteen 5 franc coins are worth a total of 4.873 troy oz of .999 silver. The one 10 francs is worth 0.7234 oz of .999 silver. The five 50 francs coin are worth 4.3405 oz of .999 silver. Total of 9.9369 oz of .999 fine silver!! This does not include the 100 franc coin which would bring it to about 10 oz of silver! I have about $100 dollars worth of other misc silver coins including silver quarters, 40% silver half dollars, war nickel, barber dimes, etc.
