I found this in a small trinket box at a yard sale today. At first I thought it was a button or something. it says 1796 and marked 1/2 on the back. Can anyone tell me what I have here. It looks so small. Is it a real coin?...Thanks

Looks like a miniature repo of a 1796 Draped Bust (right obverse) Half Dollar-small eagle (reverse). The original weighed 13.48 grams. Only 3,910 minted. If it were real it would be worth over 100k in anything better than EX-40 condition. The real coin is 32.5 mm in diameter. The dime you show is 17.9 mm.

It is a miniature reproduction, could be silver, as some of them are made in sterling.
