Here are a couple recent CRH finds. Nothing terribly special but fun finds, nonetheless.

A 1929 Canadian Cent

A 1942-P Jefferson War Nickel

A very worn 1943-P Jefferson War Nickel

And a nicer 1943-P Jefferson War Nickel found a couple days later

Good scores everyone!

Got these in a barter in addition to some cash for a couple sterling pieces I posted about in the garage sale thread.

Got $50 in value each for them, basically an investment so I don't just spend all the cash.

Sorry picks are crappy all I had was lighting at my dinner table.

well here's a Double eagle - prettiest coin I've ever seen. I don't see it much as it lives in a safe deposit box. *L*

My question would be why? I really don't see any purpose in breaking it out. It's not a valuable coin.

Because in a MS66 holder PCGS price guide is $1800 and at MS65 its $130 you do the math.

That's true but you first have to believe the coin you have is a 66. Only 57 graded as such explains the subjective value. Still, true value is only what someone will actually pay for it. People that break out coins for resummision do so because they believe the grade is wrong, not because they hope it will grade better.

Lol high grade Ike dollars have no problem selling and your comment about re submissions makes no sense to me, if you felt the grade was wrong the first time, are you not hoping for a better grade when resubmitting? The coin above has been looked at by a few registry set collectors and the general consensus is that it has a high probability at making the MS66 but of course its all a gamble. But just for those who are curious here is a certified MS66 from eBay with a $1400 price tag, i happen to think mine has much fewer contact marks and is much less hairy from annealing marks which plague the 71's.

Nice coin, but is that a fingerprint above the eagle, will it hold it back?

I notice he has 3 total Matthew. I hope you get a better grade. One thing to remember though. A coins value is only what someone pays for it, not what some guide says it's worth.

Something you guys haven't mentioned yet is that PCGS does + grades now. The price guide lists this coin at $400 in 65+. Enamel- if it comes back 65+, he will have no problem turning this coin for a profit. This coin was graded before + grades, and with different eyes. I'm not an expert on Ikes, but I know Morgans & I think this coin has a great chance of going 65+ and a reasonable shot at 66. Even if it doesn't upgrade, they will leave it in the 65 holder as long as you send it in as a reconsideration - don't crack it out. I think you have almost zero downside risk on this one. There are dealers out there that literally make a living on resubmissions alone.

Yes your right i never crack them out of the actual holder i just send them for an upgrade under the PCGS upgrade program and i was also aware of the plus grade but im really after the jackpot so to speak. All good points you bring up though and thanks for commenting. In another fortunate turn of events the finger print on the reverse actually is on the holder not the coin itself.
