Personally, since we've had Lincolns since 1909, I think it's time for a complete redesign. Either that or do away with the cent entirely.

As a collector, I decided that Lincolns only deserved an allocation of 80 slots in my pocket page albums. As such, I don't have any Lincolns with dates any more recent that 1950.

I would rather they go back to Liberty in the Indian headdress. Only thing Lincoln did was send the vampires packing back to Europe. :)

I agree to a point. Make cent coins out of copper or forget all together. I'd much rather see the dollar bill get eliminated than the 1 cent piece. Make one and two dollar coins to replace the dollar bill. It would make finding late coins much more enjoyable!

I like the Shield.
Only other one I liked was the Log Cabin

Get rid of Lincoln though. how about Robert E. Lee, or Jefferson Davis
or
[h=1]Milla Jovovich[/h] for awhile :laughing7:

I think we should reserve American coins for images of liberty and American hero's. I find the idea of putting traitors on American coins offensive.

Although our entitled to your opinion on the subject of what should be on the penny.

I don't think Milla is a Traitor, And neither were the other 2 .
plus I never read any stories
of Lincoln running into a Burning building,
to save someone , or other such act. so imo words like
Hero & Traitor are two of the most Wrongly used words in the american language.
at least in "my" minds dictionary. 8-)

The opposite of hero is not traitor... Then again, I had to do to a google search to find out who Milla Jovovich was. I doubt she is a traitor, and if she was, I may be willing to turncoat too. Depends on the fringe benefits.

So you're saying the opposite of Lincoln is traitor? Do research and find out the real history of the civil war. He didn't really hunt vampires.

Drop the cent and round everything to the nearest five cents; it's overdue.
Don.....

imo Worse thing we can do.

First we drop the penny,
then everyone complains about the Nickel, so we drop the Nickle.
after that the dime seems useless.

Before we know it, Everything gets, Rounded to the nearest Dollar.

Your $3.79 Gallon of gas to mow your lawn gets Rounded off to $4.00
You hand them a $5. they hand you a $1 you crinkle it up & stuff it in your Pocket
or the tray on the Counter, then Come to TreasureNet and Post

Drop the Dollar, and round everything to the nearest five $ ; it's overdue. :laughing7:

I think we need the Penny, to help teach the Kids, just how bad things are these days,
And not to grow up thinking $1.00 is the most useless thing in our pockets.
even if it is.

Interesting........
I take the position (paraphrasing another onliner's response) that the American penny’s only real defenders are politicians from Abraham Lincoln’s home state, Illinois; charities that conduct β€œpenny drives”; the lobby that represents the company that sells zinc penny blanks to the U.S. Mint; the company that makes those coin-changing machines you see in grocery stores; and people who don't want change--even if it's for the betterment of society. Pennies cost more to produce than what they sell for. What can you buy for a cent? It worthless;... but my 'two cents'.......priceless !!
Don..

PS: We dropped the half cent in 1857 but I don't recall reading about any backlash to that move.
