Well freezing outside, can't metal detect...or really do anything outside lol. So was looking through some of my recent coin purchases, and this one kinda stuck out. Its a barber quarter 1898, it seems like there may be a faint mint mark. I see the mint mark of an S, photos aren't the best...got a phone I'm using for a camera. Oddly enough this is easier to see without magnification, but my phone wouldn't focus on the spot without a magnify glass :(. So just looking for some opinions on this, possibly if this a known error? Or if this is just some sorta of mark and just a plain 1898. Thanks ahead of time for any input 8-).

I see what you're talking about but I doubt it's a mintmark, looks too large.

Now that is an interesting anomoly. The top of the S looks right, but the bottom is way too drawn out. But it is in the exact right place. Seems too faint to be anything more than coincidental damage, but it could also be a mintmark suffering from PMD (post-mint damage). If the coin was in a much lower grade, I may have agreed with you, but there seems to be too little wear on the devices to warrant such a faint mintmark, unless it is grease-filled. A mystery with seemingly no answer.
