Roughly 5-6 years ago my MD partner took me to an area. When I found the first 8 Reale! (1747)
After extensive searching by my partner and I, he found the second 8 Reale 1745! And months later he found the 1744 eight Reale. Two years go by before I find the 1744 four Reale. All these coins were found in a 10 x 20 yard area. I am now in possession of the entire cache! We feel they should be together and not separated.

The 174 5 is somewhat odd in the way they make the five, we thought at first it was a nine!
Almost seemed like it was in a fire? It was blackened in crust? He boiled it in water😵 to clean!
Any expert advice is appreciated!
Thinking about auctioning them in the township they were found! There is rich history in the area from the first settlers!

We will nominate it for banner if we think it will make banner. But now it is too late to make the banner for those coins.

Nice coins... 1st coin must not have got enough votes, the collection wouldn't qualify for banner since 2 were found by someone else and last coin was found by you several years ago....

I understand about not getting banner at this time.
But why no interest? Are they too common?
A small cache today yes. That was a lot of money back then! Perhaps a years pay?

Nice 4 Reale find! I see only 3 members including you in thread called it a banner find so most likely it just didn't get the required votes.

Near Marcus Hook? (Delaware river) Near the refineries?

We found a bunch of them there last year. We think they were deposited by dredges. We said that we would dive there but haven't yet.

They cleanup very well with soda ash, salt and aluminum foil in warm water.

Nice coins and congrats! I assume you found them in or near the water on a beach somewhere. If so and if the sand dunes are not off-limits, you might want to check in the sand dunes. Storms and especially Tropical Storms and/or Hurricanes have long tossed a many Spanish Silver as well as other coins into and even sometimes across the dunes due to strong winds and strong waves. If the sand dunes in Florida were not off-limits due to the endangered Sea Oats and other plants that take root and grow in them, a lot more Spanish Silver coins would be found along the beaches there.
