Was going through my pennies last night and noticed this one... I'm too new to this game to have any idea if it is an error or damage. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Looks like a mint error called a cud.

Sweet. Guess I'll have to take it to the local coin store and see what they will give me for it. Thanks!

Cuds are caused when a piece of the die breaks and falls away. The mint has gotten very good at replacing dies when they near that point, and also at catching the coins once they are made. While all released errors are rare, cuds are on the more common side. I am guessing $25 to $50 considering the amount of coin lost to the cud.

Given listing fees and mailing and reasonable profit for the dealer, if you go that way, I would expect an offer between $5 and $10 (if they make an offer at all).

So looking on ebay, I see most of the coins are graded... Is that something the dealer could do for me? and any idea what that would cost?
