Dosn't have to be the most valuable or the most rare. Just the ones you enjoy showing off to people when company comes over. Personally I've been collecting for 50 years and have many many coins more valuable or more rare than these but I like holding history in my hand so these 2 are my picks. A 2001 Silver Eagle recovered from the vault in the basement of the World Trade Center after 9/11 and an 1802 8 Reale recovered from the Lady Burgess which sank in 1806. Show us your favorites.

My most favorite coin that I have is actually my profile picture. It is the Lundy 1929 1 Puffin. There were only 50,000 minted and is worth around $50. I wonder if anyone else on here has one...

Lundy coins are fantasy pieces, if I remember correct. It is not an independent nation.

I have a lot of coins but my favorites are the ones dad brought back from WW2, Japanese, Australian, and a bunch of others.

I've got a lot of coins I love, but these are 4 of my favorites:

1. My all-time favorite coin is the 1955 doubled die cent. I've wanted one since I started collecting coins as a young teen in the 80s. I bought this one at a good time, right before it's last big price jump. I bought it as a raw XF on eBay for about $700 (which I prob wouldn't recommend cuz there are so many fakes out there). I sent it to PCGS when I was in their collectors club with about 4 or 5 other coins. It came back AU50. Current PCGS price guide lists it for $1825!

2. My favorite series is the Morgan silver dollar. A few years ago, I started to put together a full set. I took the advice of the old timers and have been acquiring the key dates first. (This way, you can buy the expensive coins before they go up in price so high that you can't afford them.) I sold the bulk of my silver stash from coin roll hunting to pay for a family trip to Europe and this nice mid-grade 1893 S. I'm glad I did, because with kids getting close to college, etc, I will probably never have a chance again to get one. I now have the big three: 1893 S, 1889 CC, and 1894, along with several semi-key S-mints and O-mints.

3. Another coin I love is a 1921 S Buffalo nickel. It's not near as valuable as the other two mentioned, but is special because it was a gift from my brother and because he found it in circulation. He pulled it from a roll in the cash register at work and have it to me cuz he knows I live coins. I have found a few dozen Buffs from rolls over the years, including a better date '18 D, but the odds of finding a '21 S, one of the lowest mintage nickels (even back in the 40s and 50s when they still circulated) is nearly impossible. If it weren't for a small scratch on the obverse, it would probably grade F12, and be a $150ish coin.

4. Lastly, I've added an 1808/7 half dollar to the list. It's not particularly valuable either, but it's my oldest coin and a gift from my father in law, who's a great guy and gave it to me as a gift. Along with this coin, he filled a Dansco Type coin album with several other coins from his collection and gave them to me for Christmas one year. I sent it in for a free grading I had as a PCGS collectors club member (knowing it would get a low grade, but it was free and I didn't have anything else to submit at the time). It is a pop 1/276 coin, the lowest graded for the date (for any of you lowball set collectors out there).

Anyway, there you have it.

That may be so, but they are considered coins and are found in one coin price guide book that I have, kind of like the Antarctica coins and Moon coins.

My dug Morgan, from a church picnic area, scorched, had been through a fire around 1905 when the church burned.

Peace dollar, dug near an older ballfield.

First off, though I appreciate all aspects of old coins, I am not knowledgable nor an active collector of coins. The few cobs and pistereens that I have found are what I love to dig when MDing. That being said, one of the most interesting coins that I have is this 1936 Borough of Norfolk commerative half. I was born and raised near Norfolk and know it well. There are less than 17,000 of these left in existence from the original 25,013. NGC sums this coin up pretty good for anyone interested in its history.

Here it is -

My favorite coin I like to carry around with me to strike up a coin conversation is: pre-Civil War 1848-Large Cent, about Good condition with a part of the rim a little smashed (hammer, train, etc), but yet all readable. I always wondered who may have touched this coin over the past 165 years, minus the time I acquired it back in 1961. I've been carrying it in my change(mouth) purse in my pocket since my dads passing away in 1987. Anytime I need change at a cashiers register, I pour my loose change coins out into my hand, and the first question asked is: "what kind of coin is that", thus starting a conversation about coin collecting, time permitting.

My favorite coin is a Massachusetts 1787 large cent. It has THE TRANSPOSED ARROWS. This is an extremely rare coin and am proud to be one of the very few to own one. Fine cond. in Redbook is about $5,000 i think.

i always really liked the US coins (any) from the second half of the 19th century. I especially like how pennies, nickles and dimes etc. got their modern "look" (size and material)...but are so different in style.

I am starting my collection of commemorative half dollars. I know it's going to be expensive and a long process. I have already gotten the 1893 columbian exposition. 1952 washington and carver..and the 1982 washington proof. 3 down..many more to go!

My favorite is a 1913 type one buffalo Nickle. These generally have a really poor strike and normally have a terrible eye... They are flat, gray, colorless, lifeless coins. Nice design, but the 1913 type ones were poorly made. When I was 16 I went out looking for a nice one. It took me over a year to find one I liked. Cost me $110. I was in a car accident, and instead of repairing the car, I bought this coin. It is a beauty. Nice Flashy luster, Clean and bright. Very strong strike. light blue and red toning. Walter Breen looked at it, told me he was pretty sure it was not proof, but was probably one of the first struck from the die (Still polished). Anyhow. I still have that bugger somewhere.

This is a tough one for me to answer. My favorite dug coin is a toss up between two, 1829 Capped Bust Dime or an 1800 Draped Bust Cent. I have a Blacksmith Token that is pretty special too.
The favorite non-dug coin that I own right now would be maybe 1805 Draped Bust Half Dollar, 1814 Classic Head Large Cent:icon_scratch: Overall I am a big fan of early copper.

Mine's a 1929-S Walking Liberty Half. I bought it at a flea market as a kid for $2-3. It has no collector value to anyone else but for me it's the coin that started the collection.

My favorite coins..... hmmm, so many choices. I would have to say the 1808 Half Dollar that my Uncle Bill gave me when I was a kid.
