Pls Help Best way to get the fair value for my 2 gold coins???

These were saved in a little box by my father for a very long time. I don't know where or how he got them. I've had them for about 8 yrs now and am interested in selling them. I don't know the first thing about them except they are very, very shiny and look very detailed. I'm sure they are something special because I never knew he had them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check ebay sold listings as a estimate of what they should bring, look up quarter eagles or 2 1/2 dollar indians

Buy a redbook and do a little looking and see what you come up with. I also agree with the ebay sold listings. Stay away from pawn shops thats just my opinion.

You missed the high point of gold prices for awhile. As some would say, "They aren't eatin' anything". Why sell them? They were your father's treasures. If you sell them, they are gone for good. Do you have children to pass these coins on to? I have some of my Dad's stuff, and everything means more to me now as I become older.
You can get a few hundred dollars for just those two coin, but remember, when they are gone, they are gone forever. No doubt your Father had them put up in a place where visitors couldn't find them easily. That is a problem for all of us who have interesting MD'ing finds or other valuables. I just ask you to think it over very carefully about letting these go.

The 1911-d is the most valuable of these... they fetch extreme amounts. the 2 you have are worth a couple hundred each ROUGHLY.
As far as "heritage"... heh... um... I don't see that... They are just coins.
Best bet is to go to high end auction in your area if there is one.

Thank you for your response. I agree, I don't have any attachment to these coins. It's hard to determine why 1 coin vs another gets what it does on Ebay. It's a big risk unless you set a reserve. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Thanks ARRC.

The best way to get fair value is to know what that value is.

I agree with the others here who urge you to think about them as heirlooms before selling them. My most treasured coins were given to me by my grandfather. There are better ways to get $600 unless you are in an emergency situation and $600 is going to immediately alter your future for the better.

My two cents, at the end of the day they are yours to do with what you please.
