I recently acquired a bunch of old coins and tokens. One is an 1881, 1 centime coin from Haiti. My standard reference book lists this coin as bronze. Yet, it clearly has a gild on it, under can be seen copper.Wt. is 4.766grams, 25mm diameter, has all the other correct coin aspects for the bronze coin.
It is my understanding that bronze is an alloy, and thus would be the same looking material all the way thru, not just a bronze or gilt surface.
Anyone know more about this? Is it a pattern or trial coin? Any help would be appreciated. HAITI-1.jpg HAITI-2.jpg

It might just be a coin that was once spray painted gold. I find painted coins all the time.
