What's the best way remove corrosion?

Hello! I just purchased this penny on eBay and I need some advice. It's an 1864 L and has surface corrosion. Can you tell me the best way to treat the penny for this problem? Thanks a lot

I'd leave it as is, you hit the nail on the head, it looks corroded, remove the corrosion you will end up with a pitted coin. Hyrogen Peroxide, Lemon juice then vinegar, in that order, if you insist on proceeding....

Corrosion is damage to the metal. Technically it can't be removed, only made more visible. Leave it alone.

No different then putting it on the dash of your truck for two or three years getting hot and cold. Over winter and summer. That's where I got the idea. The dirt just fell off do to the expanding and contacting...

Olive oil, Lemon juice, lettuce, and tomatoes. Toss, eat with the coin. Search for the coin over the next couple of days... You know where... The improvement should be minimal.

Honestly, any attempt to improve a coin will result is a lost of collectible value. The coin has honest wear and damage from its life. You will not improve anything by trying to remove it. Besides that, that coin could only have that pitting removed by grinding away the surface.

The OP isn't talking about dirt. Dirt and corrosion are two different things. Excess heat will damage a coin.

Just an acetone bath and call it a day.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try cuda's acetone trick before dejapoohs stomach acid idea. It sounds less messy!
