1943 Penny's from EBAY

So I took a chance on a seller who doesnt sell coins who had these 1943 penny's. He had bad pics, kinda like my first one, but they were cheap...well, I got them in and they are all about MINT. I am very happy. They all look brand new like picking up some 2016 penny's/

How cheap where they? I can't tell if this happened to your coins or not, but I do know own that people chrome plated (or whatever it's called) old steel cents to make them look brand new.

I hope you didn't pay too much. They are all reprocessed and hold no numismatic value. Collectors consider it PMD.

Yeah, those have been plated. If you're not sure of something, the best thing to do is ask here before buying.

Actually, no, they are not plated. They all weigh EXACLY 2.7 grams. If you think they are, your dumb. Go play in the road. I have decided since there are so many asses on this site that Im just going to be a dick right back at ya!

I was just giving you an opinion. How much did you pay. I don't deal with steel pennies and want to know what a good deal is. How many did you get? A whole roll?

No one was trying to be rude to you. Could you please answer the questions? If you got them at a good price you could have still came out ahead. When the steel cents were minted they weren't shiny like yours. That's why we know they are plated. So no name calling and keep it civil. Sorry your bubble was burst.

This is a steel cent in MS66. That's pretty much the highest grade you can find these regularly, it still has the mint luster and looks fresh from the mint.

Look at the dull finish. It is in good shape, but is nowhere near as shiny as yours.

I've found a half dozen or so of those plated cents before. They look great, which is why you know they aren't original. The zinc coating would be toast even after light circulation.

There's not a chance they're copper. Probably just the lighting.

As the others have stated, they have definitely been reprocessed. Original surfaces look nothing like the shiny plating.

IF... you had a real copper 1943 penny IN THAT condition...

It would sell in auction... My guess... In excess of $250,000.

I think there are something like 16 of them left "unaccounted" for out there in the world.

I'm glad you edited your response. There was no need for that. People were just giving you there opinions about them. That's why you posted. It just turns out you bought really nice replated steel cents. I hope you didn't pay to much for them. If you did then use it as another ebay learning experience.

If a magnet will stick to them, they've been plated, if the magnet doesn't stick, they're fantasy copies. Maybe there is something out there that will remove the plating and not damage the steel surface underneath? Maybe a chemist out there knows something.
