Found this guy today at the old 1700's field where I dug the beautiful real and the other two 1700's coppers last week. What an interesting spot. Only dug a few holes today, the other two were lead chunks.... Anyway though I would share happy hunting!

If only that coin could talk. Could it have been in the ground since 1854 or thereabouts? Must have been a very exciting moment for you when you un-earthed it from its long time coffin in the ground. Great find & congrats. History in your hand!!!

It was. CThe field(s) in this area have given up 4 centuries of coins now!! My earliest is a 1723 Hibernia 1/2 and 1748 1 real and a King George II w/o date, then this has been the only 1800's coin so far, then two wheats and a big modern clad spill.... Odd place, but good to know that people have been using it for a very long time. Also lots of musket balls, a few buckles, crotal bell, two buttons...
