One more coin... 1858 Canada one cent

This coin looks to be pretty rare. At least in this condition I'm thinking about sending it in to have it graded. I mean I only paid $.50 for it. And that's because there was 160 of these coins and I didn't think they were worth anything because I've never found anything worth very much. But I didn't know if anyone is familiar with these coins. I thought I would ask. Comparing it to some of the others that sold on eBay I feel like it's higher detail than the others. But two eyes may see differently.. thanks!

Huntsman 53 (thank you) clarified what I thought was a fifty dollar price posting; actually, as he correctly pointed out, the OP paid only fifty cents for the piece ("I mean I only paid $.50 for it.") I read it too fast and missed the decimal point.

There is a 1859 that's about the same quality if not nicer.

50 Cents ! You are the luckiest guy. In 1858 Canada was still "The Dominion of Canada". It is the scarcest, by far, of a two year type, and a "must have" for collectors of Canadian Large Cents. The one I bought a year and a half ago cost me $105.
It's not quite as nice as yours, but it was a re-cut date variety. Did you get to buy all 160 coins at 50cts. ea, and this 1858 happened to be in the lot? If you have a bunch of the Large Cents. Look all of them over with a good magnifying glass. I recently read an on-line article that stated there were over 1600 varieties in the series. There are some scarce re-cut dates and lettering, different transitional design styles, and cuds and other large die breaks that have significant premiums.

There was 132 of those coins. Three of them are from 59. Bunch of 60s through 80 stuff. I didn't know I just guessed that they were all worthless. Like all those pennies from Britain those big ones that are worth nothing that I've ever found. But I wasn't familiar with them I was focused on the silver coins he had. I left some stuff at his house too but I don't think it was very old. The one bag had a bunch of Foreign stuff in it from the 1870s all silver so I jumped on that. He said this was his junk collection. Next time is nicer stuff. I don't know what to expect.

Here's a picture of the 59 it's in good condition I don't know I don't think it's worth a whole lot. But I'm not very good at guessing either.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. It was the Province of Canada those first two years and Dominion of Canada later.

The 1859 plain narrow 9 is fairly common, so, the 1858 is worth much more. Both nice coins though! Conrats!
