Picked up a few boxes of cents and came across this 1916s and blank.

The blank weighs 2.5 grams, same as another zincoln I weighed. Same size as well. What do you experts think?

On the 16s I'm looking for a grade and opinions on the "wood grain" look. It looks great, great detail on Lincoln and stalks. Does the wood grain appearance detract or add value.

Thanks!

I personally don't think the coin being a woodie detracts from it. I would grade it XF-40. The other is a blank planchette. Two nice finds!

I had my own coin store for 20 years... The wood grain look comes for being in a blue whitman coin folder. It is in AU condition... :)

My actual understanding of woodies is that it's causes by improper alloy mix.

This is what I had read about also, although I've heard that certain storage of coins can create discoloration...

Two very cool finds. That '16-S is great. I would definitely assign a premium to it compared to a similarly graded example if I were adding it to m collection. Nice work.
