in my big score from the bank today, I have found many different halves from 2012-2015 p's and d's with silver edges, these are not silver are they?--------I thought they only made silver in s after 2001, can someone help me out on this, if they are silver I have found a ton of silver today, I mean, I found some same years that were clearly copper but these were def silver edges, I just thought they were a proof coin, but why do they look silver?

Sounds like you had a good score with that bag ! I too would be confused by silver edges on half dollars dated after 1970 - unless they were S mintmarked . It is my understanding that from 1971 to the present day , silver proof Kennedy half dollars have been minted in San Francisco.. now please give us a nice list of what you found in your bag tonight !

Best way is weight, Most likely the silver/platinum plated coins from the "world monetary reserve" collectors set crap. The state quarters are the most common either in gold or platinum plate. They show up in halves and dimes on occasion. Just search ebay or the like for platinum plated edition or similar search phrase and you can see for yourself.

I think you answered yourself with the comment about one having a "partial silver edge" and the Philly mint mark. They're probably plated with something after they left the mint.

Also a pic of the front and back of the suspect coins would help.

No silver Kennedy halves minted from 1971-1991 except for a few 1971D and 1977D stuck in 40% silver by error, and 1976 S 40% silvers (also struck in regular clad S mint).

Kennedys struck in 90% S silver proof form resumed in 1992-present.
