Not even good fakes. Wear pattern does not resemble circulated coins. Toning appears artificial. Could just be the trifocals, though.

I own over 200 fake Morgans. Nearly all were bought as known fakes. None have the word ‘copy’ on them. I applaud you on learning what characteristics are found on different fakes. Some local coin dealers have difficulty when the coin in question is near proper weight.

Time for more coffee.

I managed to get two fake items over the years. The went in the trash and then to the dump. I've been very fortunate but I don't generally buy coins.

Sad. I got to give them credit though, they are "really good" at their craft!
Anymore, everything is suspect.

I saw the Chinese gold plated Morgan's yesterday. They were $12 but I doubt they'd pass the magnet slide test hehe. Made in Hong Kong.

Don't count on a magnet to tell, all the silver coins I have gotten passed two rare earth magnet tests! but maybe they use different blanks for gold?

I've never seen one pass the magnet slide test but maybe those Chinese are getting better at making their junk hehe. I use the spec gravity test on smaller coins if they are too small to slide on my magnet but never found a fake yet.
My dealer has a couple fake rounds and they look as real as can be!
The sizes match but spec grav is off and they won't slide on the magnet like silver does.

The silver coating makes it slide the same with a magnet? And how would the weight be the same with different metals? This can be worrying.....
This fake coin stuff is getting very technical these days and they have gotten good!!

Chinese counterfeits, I have been doing a lot of research on them, and have various denominations and have discussed them with several dealers.

The only test I haven't done yet is the specific gravity test. They pass the ping test, weight is right, size is right on, rare-earth magnet slides the same. With a Lupe and experience you can tell.

Would people like to hear my thoughts and see images of the better counterfeits? and I can post better pictures of them including the 90% coin silver Morgan I ordered that is a fake, it certainly pings the same and WILL have the same specific gravity because it is the same mix of silver as a real coin, right size right weight etc.?

Saw alot of copies in the markets of Afghanistan of varying degrees of quality.

I figured at the time they were coming out of China, since Afghanistan technology lacked for high quality copies.

A few passed every test I could give, but most did not.

I figured if 297 coins failed my test then the remaing 3 were probably fakes too, but just darn good ones.

I tried to warn the G.I.s about taking them back home, but most just wanted to believe, so they did.

Problem is with these (real) coins being out of circulation for decades, the treasury department does not want to get involved.
