Is this an error or does a merc have an earring?

Was going through some finds and saw this Merc with a circle that looks like it's right in the center of the dime. Is this an error , or added some other time. What do you think? DSCF1998 3 (3).jpg

Thanks,
Steve

I think I saw this question about the circle impression on a u-tube segment. They say that the circle was caused by the coin rolling machine back in the mid 1935-50's, drilled the last coin in the roll to seal it tight, but then ruined the coin from a collection point of view. I might be wrong, but that my thoughts on it.

Some sort of damage, definitely not a mint error.
