Sometimes silver coins end up with a neat patina like this one. Black background and silver details. My avatar is like that too. I wonder what causes that on some but not all? Gary

I agree, it is not the typical shiny silver. Gives it that old look.

Thats a great looking coin. I have managed to find 3 of them in the last 10 years, but have been treasure hunting for 30 years. 2 of them were found in one outing, about 60 seconds and 10 feet apart. That was a huge thrill. Hope you find one soon. It is a very exciting coin to see come out of the dirt.

Grandma's Morgan may someday be yours. It may not be the same as a dug coin but it has great sentimental value.

One possibility is that it was kept in a suede pouch. Suede will turn silver a black color.

Don't you wish for your mom that it was an 1899-P??!!

I sold an 1899-O Morgan Silver Dollar at the flea market on Saturday to a young gentleman that also bought some other coins. Even though I picked it up and laid it next to the other coins he was purchasing and told him to not forget the Morgan, he walked off without it and was gone so quick that I could not get it to him. Hopefully he will be at the flea market this Saturday to retrieve his purchase. I may not set up due to expected showers and thunderstorms but I will likely be there and hang around in hops that he will show.

He will return , if not give him a few Weekends ( couple months ) then assume it's still yours , but that's me.

Hey .
I'm not a 'toner ' unless it's really appealing , or a like new look on 100 year old coins .

That coin looks the way I like my silvers to look even with au details on the coin.
