Hey y’all. I recently acquired this 1849 Oregon Exchange Co. Beaver gold coin. At first glance, some things about it just seem a bit off. Can anyone help with authentication? I am in no way a coin expert so I welcome any and all comments!

Based on the images provided, I would guess that it is gold plated, and possibly molded. An authentic piece would normally command about $80,000.

Time for more coffee.

Thanks! So you're saying it looks to you like a reproduction?

Here is a real one for your comparison. Yours is an obvious fabrication. Hope you didn't go to deep on the purchase. Cheers native gold beaver.jpg

Thanks! Just wanted to check. I actually just found it in a bag full of presidential gold dollars passed down to me from my grandfather. Hey, at least I know that the gold dollars are real :laughing7:

First off, sorry it's not real. Second, you mention gold presidential dollars. I don't know of any dollars made like that. Could you post a photo of one?

Likely referring to the "Gold" Presidential Small Dollars that began in 2007 with Washington and ended with Reagan (omitting Carter in the series as the man has been blessed with longevity and hadn't met the criteria of being dead).

Ignore the "Duh" comment, it's really not what most all of us are like or about.

It appears to be a plated cast coin, still an interesting copy of a real gold coin. :icon_thumright:
