If you are talking about the letters of IGWT running into the rim, I believe that was an issue with the master die that was used to make all the other dies. As the dies age, the letters can get distorted and larger.

If I remember correctly, a new master die was made in 1969 because of this issue.

all 68-D's have the "saucer" look with red to red brown color--- ya can spot 'em quicker than a bear with a trash can on his head:laughing9:
