If it's cast, there may be a small raised line around the edge.

Other than being super expensive, nothing about it screams fake to me. I’m far from an expert but the picture doesn’t exclude it from being good in my super novice opinion.

That little ridge around the rims of both sides is what caught my attention. I don't believe it is authentic.

Where did you find or purchase the "coin"?
And what is the weight?

The piece found in Syria weighed 8.20 grams

That's what I noticed also.

Found in Syria. Ok. That reduces the likelihood of it being a modern replica, but only to a small degree.

I have the same concerns as others have mentioned. The raised line along the edge gives some credence to it possibly being molded, rather than struck. I am leaning toward it being fake, but possibly not modern. Ancient coins of that region have been counterfeited for centuries.

While I am not qualified to judge this coin based solely on the images, I do have sizable collection of counterfeit American coins.

Time for more coffee.

Most of my fakes are Morgans. I started so I could have references in my hand. I love taking them out when buyers or collectors come by. Most could not itentify a fake. Teachable moments.

Back to the OP. He should take it to a qualified professional for evaluation.

The apparent "raised edge" that some are speaking of doesn't concern me to be honest. If you go to the following link and scroll down to the gold coins, you will see that most of them have the same raised edges. If this is your coin, you seriously need to take it to a credible expert, not just some jackass who runs a coin shop out of the corner of a flea market.

Thanks for the reply and I agree with Icewing about taking it to a credible dealer for confirmation and possibly even slabbing, for this one, if authentic.
