Also I would say it is a fake. Particularly due to how the Roman numerals are. It should read Carolus IV not Carolus IIII. Also what is the hole in the coin?

I can't speak to the authenticity of the coin but a lot of earlier coins (including a few I myself have dug) do use IIII instead of IV so I don't think that is any reason to say it is a fake. Here is the numista page for the coin: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces41352.html

Ok the one that I had seen was from Peru, so that helps with that issue. The weight isn’t horrible for the wear. It should be 6.7668 g if it was in mint state. I’m still curious what is up with that hole though.

i have handled a lot of these, there is no reason to suspect it, the hole is a common occurrence ... folk say it was done before pockets were common to keep track of coin using a string. your coin was whizzed to clean it up, not a lot of value but a nice conversation piece. for me that coin has character, it was used ... a lot ... it has a story to tell.

Mack, I was thinking Peru also but it is not since the Peru coin is IV and Jimz is IIII.

I see nothing to doubt the authenticity, everything including the legend appears to be correct. Holed coins are very common during this period.

I hit a real spill of a 1/2 real and a 1 reales that wad holed which was Charles III. I also found a 1837 Bust dime that was holes. IMG_0837.jpg

Now I’m wondering what was used to fill the hole? What we would call potty. And as far as fake goes I found a seated dime that was fake from that period of 1875. It was made of Antimony and plated silver. I love that fake. If you want pictures just let me know I don’t want to fill your post with my stuff

Holes were common as they were sewn into the shirts and pants... jackets etc.

Of course that’s the counterfeit. And you know what’s funny I just found a clad quarter that had a hole in it from the 60s and that’s when they used to tie floss to it and rip off the pinball machines LOL that’s my favorite clad quarter!!
