A book could be written on the number of varieties in the Morelos coinage. The two main types show either the letter 'M' or, like yours, a bow and arrow (pointing up) with the letters SUD (south). Morelos probably had some silver and gold coined to pay for military supplies. The majority of the coinage was copper in the form of IOU's to be redeemed after the war. Many, if not most cast silver coins are counterfeit. All cast copper coins are suspect.

The auction price of these Mexican War of Independence coins has gone through the roof in the last 4 years. 4 or 5 times the value, coins that went for $1,000 are bringing $4,000.
