ianjen..Just checked the Red Book and your coin would have to be a 1963,'73,'83 or '93 and didn't see any of those dates that would have an error..other than the doubledi strike. Maybe someone else will find something I missed. HH and GL

Thanks, it looks like from the information you sent that it is a die chip that is still stuck in the penny. I will keep it and add to my collection.

Probably die chip or "cud" or grease in the die but the first sounds more likely, either way it is a very common occurence and they don't command a premium.
