!00+ Colorado Agricultural Ghost Town Names

Not all ghost towns are in mining areas. This listing of 100+ Ghost Towns were mainly agricultural communities. A few are now in larger towns but for the most part, they no longer exist.

Most had a post office, general store and perhaps a church.

Course you have to FIND them first. Hi Carl - I will be rejoining the Eureka! club again soon. And hopefully I can locate some of these old places.

Re: 100+ Colorado Agricultural Ghost Town Names

Log cabins were easily taken apart, moved and rebuilt. Sometimes there is little evidence of habitation and much of the fun is imagining the activity there. There is a excellent book that shows how to date a site from the type of tin cans.

Most of my detecting enjoyment comes from research, and Google Earth is a huge advantage to sometimes spotting the odd feature to explore. A friend has identified wagon train tracks on Google and plans his hunts to remote and maybe pristine TH'ing areas in Colorado.

One thing for sure, if there is or was water around there were people. And evidence of prehistoric habitation can also be found if you know what to look for. Fire rings or pits, stone chips, arrowheads, cooking implements, and ideal camping areas. If it looks good today it probably was a good spot long ago.

Our mountain views are wonderful but I feel the same way about parks full of sagebrush or the eastern plains where the terrible dust storms of the 30's moved populations to other areas.

History is all around us. Check it out..............
