Any Problems Detercting In Boulder City or County?

I do not gold pan anymore in Boulder County since their new regulations prohibit it.

How about metal detecting. Do you have any feedback or comments on that? I don't want to end up in jail for detecting! 8)

Re: Any Problems Detercting In Boulder City or County?

Fall of 2009 I emailed the Boulder County clerk for calrification of Metal Detecting on city & county property (Boulder) and was pleased to get a positive response.

The regulations are "silent" on the subject of Metal Detecting other than on private property. So as long as you are careful, fill your holes and collect your trash there should be no problem.

    Good hunting...

Re: Any Problems Detercting In Boulder City or County?

This was an email response I got from Boulder County on 4/26/2010. I would really like any feedback on your experience if you MD in Boulder. Maybe the City isn't as bad.

Thank you for writing to Boulder County Parks and Open Space. It is a violation of our rules and regulations to remove any object, natural or manmade, from open space property.

Therefore, while metal detectors are not specifically prohibited, the use of such to find and keep objects could be ticketed as a violation if witnessed by a ranger.

    Sincerely,

    Vivienne

Well, there you go. That clears up the entire issue. Glad that's settled.

In the middle of last month a huntin' buddy and myself hit up Chautauqua Park and Scott Carpenter Park in Boulder with absolutely no issues. Chautauqua staffers even observed us, even a policeman drove through, no problems.

That is encouraging. Were you just scanning the surface, probing, or digging?

Both of us Lesche in hand digging as we beeped. Easy to cut nice clean plugs here. We pulled over $10 in clad, a couple silver rings and a wheatie... nothing exciting... but those parks haven't given up all their goodies yet!

Re: Any Problems Detercting In Boulder City or County?

Been in Boulder 20+ years. In my experience, all Open Space is off-limits to any activity that removes any object. City property including parks, right-of-ways, libraries, torn-up streets are all okay. Open Space is a county function and very strict. Fortunately, Open Space is always marked as such.

Thanks for that clarification. I think I'll venture up there Sunday and poke around for a bit.
