At a training camp in Georgia, a sargent anxiously awaited a new group of recruits. When they arrived , he looked them over. Obviously they were of many ethnic and diverse backgrounds. As he walked pat them he asked where they lived, trying to find out what their background was. Some were from the country, many were from the city, and a few from inner cities. He decide that some of these guys had never been out into the woods, and maybe not ever away from civilization. He told them to go get a pack and fill it with food, water, tent, cooking utensils and whatever else they though they would need. He said tomorrow we are marching 20 miles in the hot Georgia sun, so be prepared. The next morning they lined up two by tow and started out. The sargent walked behind them to observe their behavior. he started counting as they marched, then he stopped and let them take over the march count. Everything was going good considering the different types of guys he had been given. many guys were amazed at the endless stands of pines as they marched along. Only a well worn path running between them. About half way through the march, they approached a fork in the road. They sargent yelled out "bear to the left". Suddenly a young man broke rank and climbed the nearest large pine tree. The sargent yelled "halt" He walked over to the tree and asked "son, what do you think you are doing?" Obviously the young man was from the inner city and had never experienced an outing before, looking down at the sargent and said in a quivering voice," sir, you said there was a bear to the left." rockhound
