Things I Have Learned About Missouri
Possums sleep in the middle of the
road with their feet in the air.

There are 5,000 types of snakes on
earth and 4,998 live in Missouri .....

There are 10,000 types of spiders.
All 10,000 live in Missouri plus a couple no one's seen before.

If it grows, it sticks; if it crawls, it bites.

Onced and Twiced are words.

It is not a shopping cart; it is a Buggy.

Houses have 'Winders' and 'Windas', never
has a window been seen.

South of I-70, People actually grow and eat okra.

'Fixinto' is one word.

There is no such thing as 'lunch.'
There is only dinner and then there is supper.

Iced tea is appropriate for all meals...
and you start drinking it when you're two.

Backards and forards means 'I know everything about you.'

'DJeet? is actually a phrase meaning 'Did you eat?'

You don't have to wear a watch
because it doesn't matter what time it is.
You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH them.

You know the distance between stops on 'The Wine Trail'.

You measure distance in miles.

You've had to switch from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day.

You know who/which store has the best deal on cases of Natural Light
beer.

'Fix' is a verb. Example: 'I'm fixing to go to the store.

All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit,
vegetable, grain, insect or animal.

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave
both unlocked.

You know what a 'DAWG' is.

You carry jumper cables in your car. . ....
for your OWN car.

There are only four spices: salt, pepper, Tabasco and ketchup.

The local papers cover national and international news on one
page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and sports.

The first day of deer season is a holiday.

100 degrees Fahrenheit 'a little warm.'
We have four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, still Summer and Christmas.

Going to Wal-mart is a favorite pasttime known as
'goin' Wal-martin' or
off to
'Wally World.'

A cool snap (below 70 degrees) is good pinto-bean weather.

Fried catfish is the other white meat.

We don't need no stinking driver's ed . . .....
if our mama says we can drive, we can drive.

If you understand these jokes please forward them to your friends from
Missouri
(and those who just wish they were).

EVERYONE can't be from Missouri ; it takes talent. You might say it's

an art form or a gift from God!

Just do it in the dirt.

Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved
body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting..

What a Ride!!

I have only been here a month ....but this is what I have learned so far .....

......Rocks.....If you can push a pencil between the dirt and a rock, consider yourself lucky and plant something there...because that's about all the free land you will find for the day ......Rocks are everywhere....it took me three hours to roto till a 3 x 18 foot spot because of the rocks......

.....Clay....cementing the rocks together is CLAY.....if its dry ..its impenetrable......if its wet it sticks to everything

Bugs....I cant even begin to tell you how big the bugs are here....but you can herd them and the children have made saddles for them .......you can also throw away your flyswatter and use a badminton racket instead

Snakes....From a person who was used to detecting everywhere and not having to worry about putting her hand under a rock or log.... :o .. so far two copperheads and a water moccasin.....enough said.....

Spiders ....See Bugs

Arrowheads.....Who would have thought that after all these years arrowheads can still be found by just looking for them on top of the ground....its amazing

Down the road a bit.....My neighbor is anyone who lives down the road a bit.....'A Bit" means up to twenty miles and they are still considered neighbors

"We Take care of our own".....this has been told to me many times since I have been here....upon meeting new people and my "neighbors",I am told I do not have to worry about anything and if I do need something just holler ..... because .......Honey....We take care of our own....

Tornadoes......if its anything less than 75 miles an hour, well then ....Honey its just a little rumble...

People take great pride in their storm shelters....and offer to allow us the use of them if its more than a Little rumble.

Wal-mart really is the center of the universe

Walking into the general store in soaking wet clothing from swimming in the creek is acceptable....

Soaking wet children trailing behind you are also acceptable

You all have it wrong wrong wrong!

There are no Wal-Mart stores in Missouri. There are however Wal-Marts stores.

There are no sinks in MO there are Zincs.

Illinoise is the state directly to the East of St. Louis and Cape Girardeau, not Illinois. Missouri is pronounced with an A not a E at the end if you're from here.

There is NO pop in MO just SODA.

The first throwed rolls were thrown 33 miles from where I am currently located. The other lucky few of you that now have a Lamberts have us Missourians to thank for that!!!!

Spent a week their w/family.
You do have monster bugs and big old snakes.
I will stick with my home in Michigan.
