Finally got a detector now im looking for help!! PLEASE!!!

As in 2 of my other posts I've made the jump into metal detecting with a Garrett Ace 250. Now i used it for the first time the other day and all i got was junk(which i know i'll have to expect). I was hoping i can meet up with some people in the Naugatuck area to hunt with and for some pointers(like places to hunt or how to find those places) if i'm doing anything wrong. Also i was curious about the MDing clubs i've read about on this site? Are they any good? Is it worth joining one? What activities do they do?

I have my eye on a small park in Southington I am going to give it a go this week if the weather cooperates.
I work nights so I like to go in the morning when it is cool and the parks ain't filled with people.
I think I might try Wednesday morning if its not raining if you would like to go you are more than welcome.
The park is in the Plantsville section of Southington right off of Meriden - Waterbury Rd. near the old Southington
