This has been good for me to see the triumphs and lows over the last three months. There have been several moments where I really felt like quitting. Things have improved but I would hate to add up expenses compared to finds. I am hoping for a great summer of hunting. This log is mainly for me, but if it helps you to see how someone suffered through the skunks, then so be it or if it gives you a reason to go no further down this hobby, I would understand. Happy Hunting! Here is a link to one of my favorite hunts because it was difficult, unexpected, involved long walks to the banks, contained a lot of skunks, and includes one of the more rare finds: 1918 King George V Canadian Half Dollar that is sterling silver.

2-boxes of Brinks halves #11 and #12: no silver, 5-proofs, 19-NIFC's
6-boxes of dimes(2-local wrapped, 2-loomis, 2-brinks): 2-Rosie's (one each from the Brinks boxes, loomis were solid 2013's, and the two local boxes were skunks)

Slow week so far.

My main dump bank (I was dumping and picking up) decided to restrict my pickup to $100 in coins, "they need to reserve the coin for their commercial customers". That was fine. I guess I was pushing it by dropping off $1000 havles and picking up $500 in dimes and $500 in quarters. I will just keep dropping off the halves and hoping they don't cut me off from that. This is the bank that rolls their own coins (except for halves) and I wasn't finding any silver anyway.

Another one of my pickup banks also acted a little skittish about picking up dimes. The teller (who was not the vault manager) acted like they didn't have enough for their commercial customers and also mentioned that I wasn't paying the fees that the commercial clients pay. The vault manager (who was on vacation) has never given me any problems in the past, so I think it will be fine. I believe there were two factors in the comments by the busybody teller: 1) she was trying to get in on some of the manager action since the vault manager was away, and 2) she collects silver dimes and she may be a little annoyed that I'm grabbing the fresh boxes before she can get her hands on them. Hopefully, she won't bring unnecessary attention to my future pickups. I get two boxes of halves and two boxes of dimes each week.

2-$500 brinks quarters: skunk
2-$250 brinks dimes: skunk

I figured I would try quarters. I was able to go through them really quickly since they are in the clear plastic. No silver.

Garda #17 and #18 $500 Boxes of halves: skunk
6-$250 brinks dime boxes: skunk
2-$250 loomis dime boxes: skunk
1-$100 Garda nickel box: skunk (a few pre-1960, a dateless buffalo, and a 1939)
1-$500 Brinks half box #13: 1-40%
$150 CWR halfs: 1-1972 proof
$40 CWR quarters, $40 CWR dimes, $10 CWR nickels: skunk

I was pretty discouraged earlier in the week with all the skunky dime boxes, but a 40% in a half box has improved my mood. I got to just keep rolling.

$100 Brinks nickel box: 1-war, 1926 buffalo, and some pre-1960's.

I'm glad to get another small piece of silver. I have four half boxes to deal with tomorrow. Hopefully I will see something in them.

Some silver...woohoo! That's the second best box I have found so far.

Keep it up. I've been searching halves for a little over a year and 90% of my collection came from 2 boxes. You will hit a big one eventually.

I'm doing a week of cwr hunting in the big city while I hang out at the inlaws house.

$910 cwr halves: 1-40%

It's trickling slowly with just a total of 3 40%'s so far. Two more days to go...still hoping for a big jackpot.

$1040 loose and cwr halves: 1-90%, 9-40%

This was a great cwr hunt. I just drove around and hit every bank I saw. One more day left on my in-law visit to the big city.

A decent day since one of my boxes had silver. In fact, the first two rolls each had a 40%. I really thought it might be an awesome box, but only one more 40% came in the rest of it.

Box #21 Garda halves: skunk
Box #22 Garda halves: skunk
Box #16 Brinks halves: 3-40% and some NIFC's
Box #17 Brinks halves: skunk

I have two more Brinks boxes to go through plus two more Garda boxes to pickup, but of course I've got to do some dumping first.

I love walking liberties. I was surprised that it was all by itself.
