Nice start to 2014! Also, we all know how uncommon silver proofs are too. I am looking forward to keeping up to date on your log, I always love seeing pictures of what people find :)

Thanks Buff. Yeah I've been getting lucky with the 40% silver proofs this month but I've still never found a 90% silver proof yet but Im not complaining. I don't really have any goals for the year except just hope to find as much as I can with the volume I do lol. Silver nickels tend to be more predictable than halves so maybe I'll set a modest goal of 100 silver nickels for the year and just hope for the best with the halves, and see if my luck with silver dollars can continue too :)

H$H!

I love searching nickels. When I can't get my hands on halves and when dimes are bad like they have been for the past month and a half for me, I resort to nickels. I barely touch cents anymore sadly because the wheat average has gone way down and forget about quarters, LOL.

My yearly goal is 1 roll of buffalo and 1 roll of war nickels. This year I've found 3 40% and 2 90%(1963d ben, 1964 ken In the same roll) out of 26 boxes of halves.

1/21:
$2.50 loose halves - clad
$10.00 cwr nickels - 3 x '40-'59 (including a nice cond. '40 w/steps)
$40.00 mwr nickels - '39, 6 x '46-'59 (including a '55(P))

Rather slim pickins but I did find a really nice condition '40 Jefferson with near full steps & my first '55(P) in quite a while.

Well my fourth half box of the year was as good as my half box I got last week on 1/16. These have been my best boxes in two years and both boxes have had a nice assortment of keepers. Last weeks box had 12 keepers - 2 90% Kens and 10 40% including 2 68S. Well this weeks box was loaded with marked coins but still had 9 keepers - 3 90% (1 Ken, 1 Ben & 1 Walker in the very last roll) and 6 40% and a '76S clad obv. ender in the next to the last roll. Boxes like these sure are fun to search. I ordered 2 more boxes from this same bank next week so I'm hoping the silver streak will continue and I can finish the month off with some decent totals. H$H!

Correction: I finally decided to open the '76S ender roll and found out the '76S ender is a clad proof and not silver. It sure doesn't look proof on the obverse but the reverse has a slight mirror finish if I tilt the coin at certain angles. And the edge is definitely clad. Well that'll teach me to not be making assumptions until I verify for sure. :tongue3:

1/23:
$500 half box #4: 3 x 90%: '64 Ken, '51D Ben & a '45 Walker in the last roll
...........................6 x 40%: 3 x '67, 2 x '68D, & '69D
...........................7 NIFC including a '76S clad obv. ender

nice job! Are there other branches of the same bank around you that you could order from? Now is the time for you to up your volume temporarily while the silver is flowing. You gotta get it before it dries up!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. When I left the bank Thursday I asked the teller to order me another box for next week but after I had a chance to see I had another good box I called the bank yesterday afternoon and asked her to increase my order to 2 boxes. So if I get more good boxes next week I might consider increasing my volume and ordering from other branches of this bank too. I think I've ordered from 6 different branches of this bank around town in the past so it shouldn't be a problem...as long as I have the funds that is lol.

Thanks Buff, I'm looking forward to next weeks boxes too. I'm just gonna enjoy this silver streak as long as it last because I know it may not for too much longer.

Good luck with your hunting too!

$11 Ikes - all clad
$50 mwr nickels - 17 x '40-'59 non-silver (including a '47D ender), 2 x '09, '02 grease die error?

Slim pickens with my nickels again. The date on the '02 is rather faint but it's a nice cond. coin with full steps on reverse. I seem to notice quite a few '02's and other early millennium nickels with faint dates but this one was a little more noticeable than most I've found. I might be able to get some halves Monday (1-27) but if not I'll just get some more nickels again.

$40 mwr nickels - '41, 2 x '43P (including one ender), 4 x '46-'59

Well this was pretty good pickens from just $40 in nickels. So I've now found 6 silver out of the $430 in nickels I've searched so far this year. I hope my luck continues with $50 more in cwr and mwr nickels I bought today (1-28).

$23 Ikes: all clad
$50 nickels ($10 cwr & $40 mwr): nd dark buffalo, '39, 11 x '40-'59 (non-silver), 2 x '09, '82P mistrike, '06P grease die error

1/30:
$500 half box #5: skunk....just 10 NIFC including a '72S, '87D and a 2013D obv ender

1/31:
$50 mwr nickels: nd buffalo, 12 x '46-'59 (including a '47 ender), 3 x '09

Some pretty meager finds to finish off the month including a 2013D half ender which is the newest half I've ever found and my second '47 nickel ender for the month. But earlier in the month I had a couple of good half boxes and found several silver nickels and a silver Ike dollar. So it was a pretty good month overall...esp considering the low volume I searched so I'm a happy hunter. I hope to get another half box or maybe two on Mon Feb 3rd. and another box later in the week. And hopefully I can increase my volume a little more soon.

H$H!

Thanks Zero. I had to make a correction on the '76S ender I found in my 4th half box which after finally opening the roll I found out wasn't actually silver like I originally thought. But it still was a pretty good month considering my low volume. And I thought I would just make a quick note of my January totals before starting with my February log.

January Totals:

Nickels ($530 in cwr & mwr searched):
6 silver
3 no date buffalos

Halves (5 boxes & $200 mwr's & $344 customer (loose & rolled) = $3044 searched):
5 boxes: 3 skunk boxes, 5 x 90% (3 Kens, 1 Ben, 1 Walker) & 16 x 40% (including 2 x '68S), '82P no FG
$200 loose mwr's: skunk
$344 customer (loose & rolled): 6 x 40%

Big dollars ($42 searched):
1 x '76S silver Ike

Total keepers 1/2-1/31:
6 silver nickels & 3 no date buffalo nickels
5 x 90% halves (3 Kens, 1 Ben, 1 Walker)
22 x 40% halves (including 2 x '68S)
1 x '82P no FG

1 x '76S silver Ike

Update 2/11: I went to a local coin shop today to sell some clad Ike's and I had a coin dealer look at the '82P no FG half I found last month and he estimated it to be worth about $4.50 and offered me $3 for it but I decided to just keep it keep it. Unfortunately its in low grade and he said if it was in better condition it could be worth $10-$20 or more.

Those are some great finds. Do you know how many ounces that is? Im just curious.

Thanks. Im not really sure about the total ounces. It's probably not too hard to figure out I guess but I just count mine by total coins of each denomination or fv. It all figures out the same in terms of value either way. :)

Well this month is sure starting off good. My first 5 half boxes of the year were all flat string boxes from the same bank and 2 of those boxes gave up a total of 21 silver keepers. Well I got square Dunbar half box from another bank today that was even a little better than either my 2 good flat string boxes last month. So now I have two different banks that are giving me good boxes. I'll just enjoy it as long as it lasts. I also got another flat string box from my other bank today and I'll post the results from that box after I finish searching it.

Well half box #7 was a skunk. I just found a few NIFC including my second '87D of the year, an extremely shinny proof like '98D and a colorized '96P with some of the coloring chipped away. So even though 4 of my 7 half boxes this year have been skunks I've still been able to find 35 keepers from 3 good boxes which gives me exactly a 5 keeper average from my half boxes so far this year. But I'm pretty sure that good average wont last too much longer.

2/3:
$1 Ike: clad
$1.50 loose halves: clad
$500 (Dunbar) half box #6: 14 keepers: 3 x 90% (all '64 Ken's)
..........................................................11 x 40% (2 x '66, 3 x '67 (one ender), 4 x '68D, 2 x '69D)
$500 (String) half box #7: skunk

And I almost forgot, I found a '41 wheat cent in a coin counter reject tray. That's about the best I ever find from the reject trays.

Amazing...you are getting similar results as hunters that go through 18-20 boxes a week. I have three boxes ordered this week...I hope mine are loaded like yours were.
