A Barber & seven Walkers

This hobby never ceases to amaze me. I ordered my usual weekly four boxes of halves, and searched the first three. They were all skunks. The first three boxes were filled with marked coins. I expected the fourth box to be yet another skunk, but to my surprise, I find two Walking Liberty enders, an additional five Walkers, and a 1911-S Barber! I was completely blown away. Someone must have dumped Grandpa's collection at Coinstar. Just goes to show that if you keep searching, and keep the volume high, you are going to make nice finds. It's all about the volume. My streak of never being skunked on my order of four boxes is still intact.

Congrats on your last half box. Seven Walkers (including some older/better dates) and a 1911S Barber is sure a great box.

I have $1,500 in dimes sitting in the trunk of my car, plus a few CWR. I'm hoping to find time over Labor Day to go hog wild on those dimes. I usually average about 1 silver dime per box, so I'm hoping to come out of it with at least a half-dozen silver dimes. I just have to hope there are no solid boxes of 2014 only. I also have a box of nickels and a box of pennies to search.

Went hog wild on the dimes today. I found that it only takes me 1/2 hour to search a box of dimes. I was hoping for a little better results, but five silvers in six boxes is not bad. Box four I didn't search because it was all 2014-D's; so I scored one silver for each box searched. Not bad. No complaints.

8-31-14 Loomis $250 dime box #1: skunk
9-1-14: Loomis $250 dime box #2: skunk; "gold" dime
9-1-14: Loomis $250 dime box #3: 1953, Canadian, British 5 pence, Foreign coin(??)
9-1-14: Loomis $250 dime box #4: skunk (all 2014-D)
9-1-14: Loomis $250 dime box #5: 1963-D (2), 1964, 1964-D, Canadians (2)
9-1-14: Loomis $250 dime box #6: skunk; Barbados ten cents
9-1-14: $30 CWR dimes: skunk
9-1-14: $60 MWR quarters: skunk; 2014-P Arches for the Whitman folder
9-2-14: $84.50 in loose and CWR halves: skunk
9-3-14: $68 loose halves: skunk
completed 9-3-14: $100 MWR nickels (Loomis): 1939, 1940 (2), 1940-S, 1941, 1942-P, 1946, 1948, 1948-S, 1951 (2), 1951-D 1952, 1952-S, 1953-S, 1955-D, 2009-D (7), Canadian
9-4-14: $20 CWR halves: 1967
$1 loose halves: 1966
$160 CWR halves: 1970-S
Found myself in another part of the city on an appointment. Dropped in on three banks. Didn't used to have much luck with anything but machine wrapped rolls. I was especially surprised when the second teller said, "this is all I have", and drops a clad and a 1966 on the counter that screamed, "take me, I'm silver". I could hardly believe my luck. With that kind of luck I expected to find several at the third bank when she handed me 16 rolls. But there was just one: a 1970-S proof. No complaints, I'll take it.
Also picked up $1,000 in dimes from Wells Fargo. I have to order halves, but I can pick up dimes any time at the larger banks. I'll go hog wild on dimes again this weekend. I've been averaging one silver per box.
9-5-14
picked up $177 in loose and CWR from four different banks: 1966, 1967, 1969-D (2)
9-5-14
$500 in MWR dimes (Loomis): 1964-D, Canadians (6), Malaysia one sen (2), Switzerland 5 cents
My Canadian to silver ratio is usually about 1 to 1, but not today. Two dime boxes left. it only takes me about 20 minutes to search a box of dimes. The dime boxes with the transparent plastic rolls are even faster. These were Loomis paper rolls.
9-5-14
$500 in MWR dimes (Loomis): 1957-D, Canadians (2), Switzerland 1/2 Franc
Was a little disappointed with my dime ratio--just two in four boxes, but glad to not get skunked.
9-8-14:
$4.50 loose halves: skunk
$460 MWR halves (Loomis): skunk, NIFC: 2011-P, 2012-P
$19 loose Ikes: skunk
$500 MWR dimes (Loomis): skunk
Disappointing. I don't think I've had back to back skunks on dime boxes before. Also opened a box of nickels which turned out to be all brand-new nickels. For some reason, about half of all my nickel boxes are all brand-new. Frustrating. Still have a box of quarters and a partial box of pennies to search. Also picking up $2,000 in halves today.
9-10-14:
$500 box of halves (Brinks): skunk, a few post 2001 NIFC
9-11-14
$500 box of halves (Brinks): skunk Lots of marked coins. Was probably searching other CRHers dumps.
9-12-14
$2 loose halves: skunk
$130 CWR halves: 1966, 1967, 1969-D (2)
$500 box of halves (Brinks): 1964, 1965, 1966 (2), 1967 (6), 1968-D (4), 1969-D (3)

9-15-14
$118 loose and CWR halves: 1966, 1968-D
$100 nickel box (Loomis): skunk; almost all brand new 2014-D's
completed 9-16-14
$25 box of pennies (Loomis): 7 wheats (oldest 1946), 2 Canadians
9-17-14
approx. $250 in loose and CWR halves from 7 different banks: 1965. Most of the halves came from one bank that had $191. They looked like they had been picked through, but found the 1965 with a super-dirty edge that had apparently been overlooked.
Coinstar find: Somalian coin
9-19-14
approx. $20 in loose halves from four banks: skunk
$100 box of nickels (Loomis): 1943-S, 1939, 1941, 1942, 1943-S, 1946, 1958-D, 2009-D (3)
9-20-14
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): 1957-D
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): skunk
9-22-14
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): skunk
Just one silver in three dime boxes is a little disappointing.
9-23-14
$500 box of halves (Brinks): skunk, 1987-D, 2012-D
$500 box of halves (Brinks): skunk, 1982-P no FG
9-24-14
$11 in loose halves: skunk
$500 box of halves (Brinks): skunk, 2012-D
$500 box of halves (Brinks): skunk, 2012-D
First time ever to get skunked on all four boxes
completed 9-24-14
$25 box of pennies (Loomis): 23 wheats, oldest 1936, 2 Canadians
9-25-14
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): skunk
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): 1960-D, British 5 pence
$100 box of nickels (Loomis): almost all brand new nickels, 1940
dimes continue to be disappointing: about 1/2 silver dimes per box
9-26-14
$101 loose and CWR halves: 1965
completed 9-27-14
$25 MWR pennies (Loomis): 19 wheats: 1925, 1930's (4), 1940's (9), 1950's (9), 4 Canadians
9-27-14
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): 1964-D
9-28-14
$250 box of dimes (Loomis): 1962-D, 1964
9-29-14
$100 box of nickels (Loomis): dateless Buffaloes (2), 1939, 1940, 1941 (2), 1946-D, 1947-S, 1951-D, 1954-D, 1956-D, 1958-D, Canadian 1972, Phillipines 1 piso, 2009-D (9), 2009-P--I've been looking for the 2009-P for months--finally found one.

29 40% silver halves
18 90% silver halves
2 silver quarters
43 silver dimes
8 war nickels
100 silver coins
$28.20 silver face value

Great half box! I just found my first Walking Liberty and was wondering if anybody ever found a Barber CRHing. My question has been answered! Congratulations!

When I saw that first Walking Liberty ender, I was blown away--especially since the previous three boxes were skunks. Later I found another ender and I opened it up and showed it to my wife. There was another white line in the roll and my wife pulled it out and it was a Barber! Beginner's luck I suppose. I only started hunting halves about two months ago.

Some nice finds - esp the great back to back half boxes on 9-12 & 9-13. Its amazing you found 12 Walkers and a Barber from just 2 half boxes in 2 weeks. I've searched 146 half boxes so far this year and only found 5 Walkers and O Barbers. Kinda strange that 2 of my 5 Walkers have been enders. But I've had a pretty good year overall so Im not complaining. Good luck the rest of the month.

Tomorrow afternoon I pick up another four boxes of halves. I'm hoping there's some more Walkers in there. I had a great week last week, so I'm hoping they pull those boxes out of the same spot. Three weeks in a row of multiple Walkers would be amazing.

As any coin collector will tell you, the 1950-D is the :key:key date for the Jefferson nickels series: only 2.6 million minted, extremely difficult to find in circulation--quite possibly my best CRH find ever. The 1950 plain is also low-mintage and hard to find. I feel very, very lucky to have found both of these coins, especially the 1950-D.:happysmiley:
10-8-2014:
Spent the week on vacation in Hawaii. Pulled a 2 cent Euro coin from a Coinstar machine.

$250 box of halves (Loomis): 1949-S, 2 Canadians, British 5 pence

The last box had silver in the 1st and 3rd rolls. After roll three, I thought I was in an amazing box, but ended up finding nothing the rest of the box.
Very strange, but I find far more Walkers than Franklins. In fact, most of my 90%ers are Walkers.

Wow, those were sure 4 great boxes to start the month with. You sure have some great totals from just 6 weeks or so hunting. Over 23 ozs of silver in such a short amount of time is very impressive. Good luck the rest of the month.

A very astute observation, Alchemist. The same is true of dimes. I'm actually wondering if the Loomis coin counting machines cull out some or all of the sliver.

In my wildest dreams I would not have expected to pull 58 silvers out of those four boxes, especially on the heels of four skunk boxes last week. I am a happy camper. When it comes to volume, Avago has taken it to the next level and beyond--16 boxes a week. Can't wait to see what kinds of numbers he racks up.

Dropped by Wells Fargo yesterday to transact some business and saw on the teller's countertop and the countertop next to him several dozen MWR's. I told him, "I want to buy all your rolls." He sold me $860 worth of MWR's of all denominations. I can't wait to go through them.
