are you weighing the 82's to figure out if they are zinc? any tips on large date vs small date?

When I'm working with 1982, I sort first by weight (copper vs zinc), then sort large vs small date & at same time P & D. Eight different varieties to watch for when working 1982, thats why I keep my 82's separate.

Sounds like dozer and I have a similar method. I use an "off center" teeter totter scale made from a tongue depresser and wooden dowel. If the cent makes it tip is copper, if not, it's zinc.

Box of halves, skunk. Saw a few NIFC. Will do a more thorough search in a day or two. I told myself I would search 10 to 20 boxes to get a fair sample before I determined if I would continue. Not looking good so far, 5 boxes and 1 40% found.

$170 cwr halves, skunk. I don't do dimes very often but I picked up a box on the way home yesterday. I was stoked to find my first two silver dimes. A '54 and a '57. I also found a 2009P which was the last dime I need to complete Roosevelt folders #2 and #3, 1965 to current.

I've noticed after I get a skunk of a few boxes from nickels the next couple boxes are really rewarding so push through the skunk streak.

Good luck, Sean

Thanks for the kind words Sean. A little pep talk never hurt.
Zomo, the Safeway thing turned out to be a bust for me. Safeway was bought by (i think) Albertsons so some locations have closed. Of the three that remain in my area two said they almost never sees halves and one claims that the employees buy them up. I made two phone calls and walked into the third location. Doesn't really add up to me, some never see halves and then the employees buy them up?:dontknow: If I am ever close by I will stop in and ask.

Makes sense to me. A lot of places where I spend clad halves have people clamor over them whenever I come in. That's what a lot of people usually do.

Finished up a box of cents tonight. Pulled the 2009's and S mints as usual and found 7 wheats. The highlight was a 1923S in good condition and it was a hole filler.

I run into that too where employees buy them up. I stay away from those locations. Check out the locations where they said they don't come in often. Trust me they are there they just don't realize how much come in. But don't go out of your way, I just stop in when I'm near by. I might show that I find $20-$40 a week, but this is usually one to two stops. Not uncommon for me to find $20 a pop

Box of nickels and the trend continues. No silver, no buffs. 24 pre-60 coins. 1939x3.
I told my pick up bank to hold off for awhile. Tax season will eat up most of my January however I will take time to search the next bag of dimes that comes off of their coin machine. It was at $657 of $1000 yesterday. They pull one to two bags of dimes per month so it shouldn't be too much longer before it is full.

I am finally getting a little more nickel love. Finished a box this morning. Found 20 pre60 coins and two of them had silver in them! Woohoo! 1943S and 1942S.

Box of nickels. 27 pre-60 including a 1943S war nickel and a date less buffalo. I also found what I believe to be a 1941 proof. I may send it in for grading.

Box of nickels gave up 28 pre-60 coins. One of them being a 1943S war nickel. My first piece of silver for 2016. Also searched a skunky box of halves.
