Hey Guys,
This week I found myself working my 3030 in some surf a bit larger than I was comfortable in. So as I was exiting the water, a large wave caught me on the back and down I went. My scoop was pointing toward the water but my detector, toward the sand. I put Way to much pressure on the shaft as I fell and the Upper Square Shaft (#76E002) snapped right at the handle housing junction.

Does anyone know a good source for these (Other than MineLab)? I'd like to get two. One for the replacement and one as a spare for my bag.

Thanks in advance,
Jerry

The square shaft?

It may be possible to find some material close in size.

What does it measure across the flats?

Yep! Right at that junction, Sanman. I was on a trip in the Islands and luckily I'd packed the star bit that fit the housing screws. So as a Temp Fix, I just removed the section in the handle, then reinstalled the remaining shaft there. That puts the lower-shaft lock right up against the housing and losing about 10" of overall shaft length.

The OD of the shaft across the square is 1-1/16". It's real thin-wall material though. That's so the lower shaft can slide inside of it. The wall thickness is a fraction larger than 1/32". The lower round shaft OD is 1-3/32".

I wish I had one of those units here so I could think and figure on it.

Ok, well,........

First check the Mcmaster carr book, (website).
https://www.mcmaster.com/square-tubing

Also I will try to sort out a source I used for carbon fiber tubing a few years ago.

Square makes it tougher, round tubing is easier to com by.

Give me a chance to think about this a bit.

Meanwhile search and see what you can find on the internet.

Never a problem Jerry.

I'm always willing to help whenever I can.

Wish I had the time to help more often.

But there is so much work now a days, maybe when things ease up some.

UPDATE:
I was able to order the upper shafts for my CTX-3030 directly from the MineLab Repair facility in PA. John helped me with the order and was Great to work with.
The total cost for two shafts & shipping, I feel, was Very reasonable. I'm expecting delivery of them today.
Sometimes I'm cautious about calling MineLab about replacement parts as they tend to not want to sell parts to the general public. Maybe my past business with them was helpful on this order, I don't know.

Thanks to all who replied,
Jerry

Might’ve been able to find a small thin insert piece to glue them together from the inside.

If you just lost 10 in on the shaft. There someone on another forum (Steve) that sells lower shaft and can make them any length.
So I thought that might help. Or maybe you might want extra shaft
