I have had the Deus for 21 days... however, I am ready to say that this is one awesome machine. I am hunting places that should not be yielding these coins.

I have dug 2 quarters and a Walker in the last 8 days. Maybe it is just luck... maybe the Deus is not a very good machine, just a very lucky machine. Well, whatever it is, it is all good with me!

Thanks for all of the support and good luck to all!

It's an amazing machine! That is why I converted over from the minelab. I have a CTX that gets very little use these days.

I believed in them so much I started selling them lol.

Hunted with mine three times after getting it three days ago and all I can say is ..... WoW!

Yesterday I hit the back yard of an 1802 house (100' x 50') that I have pounded with countless other machines that produced a lot of very nice finds - ace350, ATpro, explorer II, Excalibur 800 & 1000 - and still came up with a fist full of clad, lead toy car & army guy, three Indian heads, V nickel, a dozen wheaties and a mystery coin that needs cleaning.

Why would I want a machine that finds rusty Walking Liberties? :laughing7:

Seriously, I have never seen a piece of silver look like that.

That "rusty" coating is actually red clay. Much of the soil in this area is what we call "red mud"... it is extremely fine clay, and it is sticky and coats everything. It will wash off with water. However, when I washed it off, I found a badly tarnished obverse. That coin had been in the ground for a long time.

That would have been an absolutely "epic" hunt for me. Three IHCs.. V nickel.. mystery coin... probably a colonial copper. DANG... you guys in the North have some awesome hunts. If I get a silver Rosie and half a dozen wheaties after 8 hours in the 90 degree heat, it is considered a big "win". Please appreciate how good you have it. I am jealous!

When it rains that red clay is the worst!
One can get as much as three inches stuck to the bottom of your boats.

You wrote "boats"... but meant "boots"... that's funny... if you get mud on the bottom of the boat... then you really have a problem, as you have obviously run the boat aground. Good one!

Am going out again today, Tom.

If fact I have two XP's ... one of my sons will be going with me. It will be a learning trip for him but he will catch on fast as did I.

We have moved to the Deus from minelab family.

Good luck out there. I hope that you and your son do well today. I was torn between Minelabs and XP. I shouldn't say this, but I found the Minelabs people to be a bit much for my taste. Good luck, and post some pics of your finds.

The only good thing about red clay and detecting, is that I rarely will find a coin stuck in the clay. If I dig and reach red clay then I know that I usually have passed the coin somewhere.
