Spray some jig-a-loo lubricant on the metal upper shaft. It is a dry type lube and is amazing on this metal. It really goes into the metal, making it super smooth. So dirt has trouble clinging to it. Wiping it down is also much easier. Also gets rid of any sticking, when trying to adjust the shaft. Seems to last many hot water cleanings too. I tried waxing and other lubes, but this stuff was the best!
