Second day in the corn field..

We 3 got back to the corn field again today. Not quite as productive but a few interesting finds. Mike got a Crotal bell that is egg shaped. I've never seen one like that before. Mark found a button and a musket ball. I got a nice small buckle, inch and a half by an inch that looks like it had a silver wash on it. It still has a piece of leather on it. It is patented Apr. 20 1875. I also got a button and a 1927 Wheatie. We saw a few more corn fields that had houses on them but they aren't cut yet.

Strange shape on the bell as well, most are as round as you can get, you'res looks a little elongated

Perhaps, not certainly. They are round for the most part but some come in a variety of shapes and sizes. (Crotal Bells, that is.)

Probably a button of some sort. Calabash found another variant of the basket weave button design here http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/deus/529065-deus-smoking-today-look-what-i-tagged.html#post5273365. I'll let Gene post as to whether the back showed a sign of a broken off shank.

BTW - that flat buckle definitely looks like a suspender strap buckle. See if you can get some more info from the patent marking and manufacturer stamp. Pretty cool it is dated (though the patent date may not necessarily correspond to the manufacture date - but cool nevertheless).
