One of my best days ever, all GA State Seal buttons with backmarks Waterbury Burton Co. 11 Coat buttons and 6 cuff button. All found within a 7'x7' area using 9" round HF coil. I had hit this exact same spot yesterday using 14kHz and didn't find a single button. So today decided to use 28kHz and killed it. These were high conductors too- hitting at 98 to 96 VDI in 28kHz.

Bharpring, from a fellow Georgian, I'd have to disagree with you on the 28kHz killing it......it simply Murdered it. Congrat's to you on some beautiful state seal buttons. Those are so cool. You and the Deus keep at it.

Amazing! Yeah the higher freqs are button magnets. Killed it alright. Perhaps a little surprised at the high VDI reading based on the metal detected but that may just be a function of the amount of metal and the fact that the coat buttons were large and round. Who knows.

The little cuff buttons were ringing in the 80s. I wasn’t too surprised. I find the 28 kHz to be about 10 pts higher VDI than 14 kHz in general. Some metals I find don’t interpolate like small iron nails stay very low, which makes the higher frequencies nice (can still disc them out below disc 10). For those who have exhausted their efforts at a site using 14 kHz, try 28 kHz and see what you think? It can feel like a new virgin site (74 kHz is just as good)

Agree with everything you just said. Smokey just bypasses all the low frequency stuff and goes for the 74 khz off the bat and just kills it. Why don't I just I learn from the master and just do that myself? Who knows.

Yeah, and now that I think about it I would open up a 2x2x3 foot hole right in the middle of the highest concentration of those buttons and see what else is down there. CS tongues, plates, or unbroken glass could be lurking.

Its hard to believe that 14kHz missed them, I agree. But I actually spent time yesterday over the exact same spot using 14kHz. I found a few coins and an old thimble, but no buttons. Today, I decided to try 28kHz to see if I could get a few things unmasked because the site is littered with iron. I backed my reactivity down to 2 (silencer -1) and notched out 0-30 to get max depth and bam targets everywhere. Crazy. A lot of fun. Now I'm not sure what to do with them? Clean them or leave them alone? The Confederate Script M button was the coolest thing I had found to date, but this day beats that.

After getting the HF elliptical coil I quickly learned that 28kh helped, I found some very small buttons in areas that I had been over before. Everywhere I have hunted 74kh has been so chatty that I have quickly tired of it. I'll try adjusting the reactivity & silencer next time.

17 Georgia buttons in a single hunt???!!! That was a find of a lifetime. Thanks for posting them.

Nice work. Awesome finds. How deep were the buttons?
Very surprised that the 14 kh did not even blink in your audio.

They were all between 6" and 10" deep. Lots of old brick and iron mixed in, very surprised that they were in such good condition. I don't know why 14kHz didn't hear them in the ground? The soil is mild here in Savannah. My only theory is that the higher frequency unmasked them. I found an 1859 IHP a few feet away the day before using 14kHz.

Here you go,
some pictures of the buttons minimally cleaned. 3 of the coat buttons and 1 cuff button I left uncleaned because the backside had some of the coat cloth attached. So I'm not sure about those backmarks? 4 of the coat buttons are Waterbury Scovill Mfc Co backmark. 3 (one of which broke apart) of the coat and 4 of the cuff buttons are Waterbury Button Co. backmark. 1 on the cuff buttons is Columbus MCL Mfc Co. In my initial excitement I miscounted and there are 16 total.
