This is the only thing of interest to pop out of the ground yesterday. Don't know a lot about them. Didn't want to scrub on it, so, I don't know if there are any markings. All info is appreciated, though! Approx the size of a nickel. 20190408_120743.jpg 20190408_120713.jpg

Those buttons without backmarks generally are from the 3rd and 4th quarter of the 18th century. By 1800, backmarks started to come into use, and a button with a backmark would be made after 1800.

I cleaned up the button with a soft toothbrush, and a little water. Seems to be nothing printed on either side. It looks soldered. Is that normal? 20190410_085001.jpg 20190410_084914.jpg

To answer your question, yes that's normal. The shank was soldered on. Last half 18th century. There should be more nearby.

Thanks Smokey! Thank you everyone, for the comments and input! Hitting that spot again tomorrow! Louis and Clark passed through here in 1804. There were also fur trappers in this area at that time.
If I find it, I'll post it! Thanks, again!
