Wish I could be some help. Don't know. there is an overload icon (looks like cross hairs) inside the horseshoe. Maybe you can watch to see if that gives you any clue.

Dig the high tones. Big iron usuually falses high 97-99 with mixed iron low tones. Lower recovery speed to 1 and go with 0 discrimination and dig it all.

Should also be able to identify the big iron targets by listening for the amount of modulation. Favor the targets with the loud- echo signal and you should dig more large iron.
