Went out looking for early morels in my area and took the Deus with me. Didn't exactly need the detector as it was sticking partly out of the ground in thick brush. Been walking past this for years and apparently never had the right angle for line of sight. This one has some family history behind it. It's the name plate off the drag line my gramps and great gramps used to dig the ditches that drained the swamps on our farm in the 1930's. BAYCITY.jpg

Cool find and even better that you have some personal family history to go with it

That post got me looking at photos of draglines and rope shovels of days gone by. When I was a young boy, there was a major road project in my area. One of the contractors left a pair of rope shovels sitting on a lot near the new road. They were there for years but eventually disappeared; probably sold for scrap.

Like a lot of guys my age, one of my favorite childhood books was "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel." Looking at an old dragline brings back some very old memories!

That's pretty cool. I have some photos from when my family lived in Westport. Among them is a great great uncle sitting on a Cat crawler tractor around 1912 or so when they built the first "modern" state highways.
