Haven't posted here for a while...2020 was a busy year @ the PO, and didn't have much time to dig!
Hit my second dig of the New year when I dug this beauty.
It's a Japanese, 1 mon.
Minted (cast) between 1668-1768 in a sand mold.
It has no mint mark on the reverse.
Translation: Currency of Kan'ei period.

Thank you for posting image's of your coin! I have found several of those type in my area and was wondering if they where from China or Japan.
I found 3 just like yours but with characters on the reverse as well.

Interesting! I would have assumed this was a Chinese coin, and I thought that only Chinese coins had the square hole. (I found one about a year ago, pic below).
Thanks for teaching me that Japanese coins also had the square hole!

Chinese coin for comparison (sorry the pics aren't great - I can take better ones if needed/wanted):

Check out the app "coinoscope." You take a photo of your coin, and it will bring up what you have! An AWESOME APP!!

Yes, a Chinese coin - congrats !

Due to there lack of value many of these coins were used as decorations.
This 1930's - 50's era sewing basket is a good example.
That's why we find so many of these old coins in the yards of newer houses here in the US.
