I'm not sure do need to? - as long as you dive regularly?

and period without diving (six months or more??) then a refresher course is recommended.

hopefully someone with more experience will confirm or correct me! ???

Your SCUBA certification is good for life. A refresher course would be a good idea if you got your certification, got in a few dives and then did no diving for a long while. If you are at all concerned about your skills and your readiness to dive, by all means do a refresher course. If you feel very confident in your skills, situational awareness and problem solving skills while diving, at least re-read your manual and do some skills practice in a pool(never, ever a bad idea).
It might be best to say that if you think you need a refresher, you do. If you think you learned everything there is to know about diving during your Open Water course, you absolutely need a refresher course. :)

How often do you need to recertifie?:dontknow: thnks for your time and help. tom
tsc, I don't claim to be an expert in anything, but my P.A.D.I. Instructor certification number is 4630. So, I've been around a little while, even though I don't teach anymore. I also have a Commercial Diver certification that predates the Instructor qualification. For what it's worth. Your scuba certification is good for life. If you haven't been diving for a while, take a refresher course, like someone else mentioned.
Diving can be dangerous. Play it safe, take a refresher and Happy Diving. 8-)

A good way to check your need for a refresher is to put your gear on in the shallow end of a pool, or where you can stand up in shallow protected water.

If you can't take your reg out and your mask off at the same time, then put them back on successfully without having a choking fit you need a refresher course or at the least lots of practice.

Purists may not agree with this but if some individual, ( I was going to say idiot) kicks both of them off your face with a fin, it would be good to be able to still function.

PADI diver since 1978 here. I just got a new card because I finally looked in the mirror and looked at my card and decided it was time to lose the pic me sporting the '70s porn-star mustache.

This^^^^^^^^^^. Gear up and take a pool dive. You'll know immediately if you need a refresher.
