Re: Maiden Voyage

Well I took my boat out for the first time since we rebuilt the transom, installed new stringers and mounted the engine on a bracket. It performed beautifully! :hello2: I* took it out in Tampa Bay with my buddy Bill and It started right away after sitting idle for two weeks. When we cleard the marina I opened it up full throttle. I thought if it's gonna blow, let it blow now. The sucker went 45 knots for 1/2 hour and purred like a kitten.

A lot of folks would have junked that boat or sold it at giveaway prices. You saved its life and you obviously did a great job. It should serve you for years...

Very nice mod, Pete. I've always like the Grady White design, and you made it even better for diving.

I hope you have good bilge pumps with a open stern like that.Does a wave come in the back of the boat when you slow down from a high speed run?I had a bass boat like that and every time i chopped the throttle a wall of water would come over the stern into the boat.I sold that boat real quick.

You don't ever "chop" the throttle in a bass boat - you ease it down off plane, and even give it a little gas to stay ahead of the wake wash. My bass boat has a foot throttle making that simpler to do.

If you look at Grady White's you will see they all come with a low transom. I actually made mine an inch taller when we rebuilt it. The water line is about two feet below that. Yes, I "chopped" the throttle and there was no water over the stern. Also that rear hatch opens up to add another foot to the stern. Fisheye I have an excellent Rule 1100gph bilge pump.

The low transom makes it real easy for divers to enter the water and get back on board. I built that hookah system for Aquanut and Joska so they can go diving with me.

Nice job Salvor6. You have a back-up system for how much fuel is on board ?

Go right ahead.

Those bolts you used for mounting...
Reverse em...
OR cut em flush.

Those seem insignificant perhaps...
Until...
You slip... get pitched by a wave into them... bend down to get something etc.

Then you will realize how something so insignificant has turned into a major ... major significance / danger.

Yes, I'm going to cut them flush. Just didn't get to it yet. The boat holds 150 gallons of fuel.
