That diver didn't seem to concerned about being in contact with it. How much damage could a squid that size do to a human?

It could kill him! There are reputable stories of divers and fishermen being grabbed and dragged to crazy depths by squid. Not to mention their beaks can inflict horrible wounds.

I think giant squids are pretty cool. From Wiki:
"The giant squid (genus Architeuthis) is a deep-ocean dwelling squid in the family Architeuthidae. Giant squid can grow to a tremendous size, offering an example of deep-sea gigantism: recent estimates put the maximum size at 13 m (43 ft) for females and 10 m (33 ft) for males from the posterior fins to the tip of the two long tentacles (second only to the colossal squid at an estimated 14 m (46 ft),[2] one of the largest living organisms). That was crazy. From what I've read about giant squids I would not want to be near that thing. It's a beautiful creature from the safety of the dock.
