That's very cool! My understanding is that they get much larger. That one is plenty big enough to swim with!

"And so the population was gradually led into the demoralising temptations of arcades, baths, and sumptuous banquets. The unsuspecting Britons spoke of such novelties as 'civilisation', when in fact they were only a feature of their enslavement." Tacitus, Roman Senator and Historian, written AD 98.

That diver didn't seem to concerned about being in contact with it. How much damage could a squid that size do to a human?

There are things you can replace. And others you cannot. The time has come to weigh those things. This space is getting hot. Whoa! This space is getting hot!

It could kill him! There are reputable stories of divers and fishermen being grabbed and dragged to crazy depths by squid. Not to mention their beaks can inflict horrible wounds.

I think giant squids are pretty cool. From Wiki:
"The giant squid (genus Architeuthis) is a deep-ocean dwelling squid in the family Architeuthidae. Giant squid can grow to a tremendous size, offering an example of deep-sea gigantism: recent estimates put the maximum size at 13 m (43 ft) for females and 10 m (33 ft) for males from the posterior fins to the tip of the two long tentacles (second only to the colossal squid at an estimated 14 m (46 ft),[2] one of the largest living organisms). The mantle is about 2 m (6 ft 7 in) long (more for females, less for males), and the length of the squid excluding its tentacles (but including head and arms) rarely exceeds 5 m (16 ft). Claims of specimens measuring 20 m (66 ft) or more have not been scientifically documented."

That was crazy. From what I've read about giant squids I would not want to be near that thing. It's a beautiful creature from the safety of the dock.
