Some people use the end of a fishing pole (grab the tip end). What I've found with bobbers is they are slow to respond. You probably will need some patience. I have used one to find an MFD signal line to the target but they are not practical for this use, just too slow. You have to hold it and wait about a minute. I've seen other people use a long piece of copper rod, nearly four feet long. Like the fishing pole, these tend to circle more at the end instead of actual bobbing. Some people use a long spring off a screen door. Maybe stretch it out so you get a weak area a little in front of where you hold it that will do the bobbing.
