I made it another year. When it warms up this afternoon I am going to look for some gold coins. It is 22 degrees and may get as high as 37 degrees today. I always start the New Year this way as if I don’t find any gold today I can’t find gold every day this year..I want every one to have the best year of their lives….Art
Went for a ride. The object is buried 4 feet deep. I used the Discovery 900 to check it. I still can not be sure if it is there. If anyone knows the secrets of this unit please let me know.
Thanks Mike…As a physical dower I have no way to tell what is down there. It could be Micro-Gold or larger. This spot is on private land and I am trying to get permission to dig.
The target is about 2 foot by 2 foot. There will be snow on it by the weekend so I am in no hurry….The two box is giving me trouble. I just don’t understand the settings or something is wrong with it. I am trying to locate someone in my area to assist me…Art
I was researching some information about a stagecoach robbery of some gold coin coming from the Carson City Mint. The area was map dowsed and I went and found it. My son is coming by on his way back to Alaska in a few weeks and says he will dig it if the weather copperates…Art
Art,
Go to www.detection.com and choose discovery metal detectors and download the tf 900 2 box unit operating manual.
This should help, I feel this is a really good unit when set up right for your area.
This detector works (auto ground) ok for me here in MI but I don't have the ground conditions in MI that you are dealing with out there.

Hey Mike…I had taken a GPS reading from Google Earth where the Easterly line crossed the road. I stopped at that spot and followed the signal with my rods and two other types of equipment. They all ended in the same spot. The area looks like the hole may have been about 2 ˝ feet around. I only know one person that could have dug a hole 4 feet deep with that diameter. I know how big the hole would be if I had dug it.
Dell..Thanks for the advise. My ear-phones are some cheapies and don’t fit real well.
Teleprospector…The Discovery is on loan to me from our friend in Oregon. On Automatic it is useless in this area. I have posted on a couple of web sites asking for help from someone in my area. I am making a list of Metal Detector shops to contact. Not to many shops here. I can’t call this stuff up here dirt or soil. It is a mixture of decomposed granite and small rocks that are glued together. When I dug some silver dollars that were 1 ˝ foot deep the first foot was easy. When I hit some stuff that the shovel bounced off of I thought there is nothing here. This stuff was hard just like hard pan down in the valley. 6 inches of that stuff and there was the silver laying on the bedrock. I will learn how to cope with it but it will take time.
I am sticking with my personal rule that I will not dig anything that is deeper than 2 ˝ feet until I am sure it is worth it….Art

Art, if the ground isn't frozen 1/2 hr and you'll be knocking on top of the chest, come on go for it

Hey BF750…At my age and health I am not sure of what I am doing. I still enjoy the hunt. Just going out and looking seems to make me happy. I no long need to add to my income so things have chanced. My wife goes now and is having fun and I don’t have to spent months in the woods by myself. I am enjoying telling people what I know so all in all …Live is good…Art
Art.. I know your dilemma.. Dowse Mercury to check the spot for Gold bars, check Silver and Lead for possibility of being ore instead of Treasure. Prosperous New Year!!!
