These pictures were taken in 1959 when the entire collection was sold to the Bank of America in Angels Camp by Crespi--who was also the prez at the time. All that ever was said about price was 6 figures but today many millions. Bought a new slide/film/pic scanner and recently found these, and many others ,so thought I'd share motherlode gold of a bygone era, still some at the bank too-tons a au 2 u 2 -John PS-and yes that IS a full size gold pan in the shot to show size scale !!!

Hey Hoser

I am wondering if back in the day you might have helped or harvested all that beautiful gold. If not can you give use some general background and how it was found, ect.......

Alot of the yellow came from the Big Bonanza mine in Sonora Ca. Mr.Kuger.I saw the collection at the bank way back in 1977,Some of the pieces were shaped like dry lasagna noodles.Parts of the gold ended up at the Nugget casino in Carson City Nevada and were since sold. The gold pictured by Hoser John was only a small part of the collection.Jim Valente who also worked at the bank with Crespi had a fabulous collection of gold speci, placer and gold coins. He gave me half a vial of placer back in 1977 when gold was about $130 an ounce.

I was hoping you would pipe in Dave.A big part of my Grandmothers Brother's(Mark Carley)gold also was sold to the Nugget Casino about that time and is now gone. The Bonanza was one of the richest pocket mines in the world, and some incredible specimens from it are on display at the Tuolumne Co. Museum. There is also a small part of Valente's gold at Ironestone. Thanks Davo!!

Mr.Kuger, from what I recall hearing back in the day there were alot of government issues involved in dispersing the Crespi collection..and of course the R brothers got Valente's gold.
