I've been researching and haven't really gotten anywhere, I have made a suction nozzle out of PVC:

Suction=2"
Jet=3/4" reduced internally to 1/2"
15' of 2" suction hose to sluice
1.5" 75gpm clear water pump

I'm losing in suction when my sluice is above where I'm dredging, do I have too much 2" hose?

Pump is too weak. you need a 100 to 125 gpm 2" pump.

x2, you need more pump.

When you look at time spent playing with different materials, different configurations, tubing sizes, etc you're way further ahead to just buy a simple sturdy metal nozzle. All the hard work has been done and it works right out of the box (providing you have a good enough pump).

The other thing is pvc is a bit fragile, it's NO fun to drag out all your equipment, get set up and running for 10 minutes and your nozzle breaks. Pack it up and head home. Sometimes a little more money spent initially pays off ten fold in the long run...
